Owl Creek Ranch

A 1,700-acre primary/second home community in a resort setting expanding from Aspen to Snowmass, Colorado, is on property purchased by George Mitchell in the early 1960's and later planned and developed by his Woodlands Development Corporation directed by Roger Galatas. The original land purchase was intended to become a base village at the foot of Burnt Mountain between Buttermilk and Snowmass, but regulatory approval for a new ski resort was not possible. An alternate low-density development successfully pursued, including twenty-four building sites. Individual homes are located in small acreage envelopes screened from view by ridges and groves of vegetation to protect the historically irrigated farmland on the valley floor. Restrictive covenants enforced by a ranch owners association protect quality. All home sites have been sold by the developer. Owl Creek Ranch includes some of the more expensive homes in the United States.
